The Sea Beast

The Sea Beast ist im Grunde eine Variante von Drachenzähmen leicht gemacht auf der Grundlage von Moby Dick, nur dass sich der Film statt auf fliegende Kreaturen auf Unterwasserkreaturen konzentriert und auch den aktuellen Multi-Kulti-Trends nachempfunden ist, was aber überhaupt nicht störend ist. Aus technischer Sicht ist der Film gut gemacht und der Zuschauer kann sich an vielen Dingen erfreuen - aber das ist bei den heutigen Animationsfilmen nicht einzigartig. Ich bedaure sehr, dass es sich im Grunde um eine Zusammenstellung der bereits erwähnten Drachenzähmen leicht gemacht und Fluch der Karibik handelt, aber The Sea Beast fehlt jeder nennenswerte humoristische Aspekt. Am Ende lernt man zwar eine schöne Lektion (Beurteile ein Buch nicht nach seinem Einband! + Sei kritisch gegenüber "Fake News"!), aber es bleibt auch ein Gefühl von sträflich ungenutztem Potenzial. The Sea Beast ist schön, aber trotz der Tiefsee unglaublich flach. (13.08.2022)

After the excellent animation film Big Hero 6, Chris Williams tries his luck again and even if it's not such a hit, it's still very good within the genre. Sea Monster is a mix of Pirates of the Caribbean and How to Train Your Dragon, and I enjoy that combination. It's got gorgeous visuals, decent action, fun characters and a nice adventure. On the other hand there's a lack of humour – which is slightly reprehensible and the story isn't exactly original, but I don't mind it here, the setting and the premise were entertaining. Netflix animated flicks are fine. 7/10 (11.07.2022)

I have to say that I haven't seen such a dull and uninteresting fairy tale in a long time. The story is simple and unengaging, the characters are bland, the visuals are mediocre and the main monster seemed downright bad, lacking in invention and character. But the worst part is the total lack of humour, because there is literally not a single joke, I didn't smile once in the whole film and the excessive running time of 120 minutes is just the top of this whole horror. I don't often dislike animated films, and obviously The Sea Beast will find its audience, but for me as an adult this is a disaster that doesn't even reach the slightest quality that an animated film should have, and if a film doesn't entertain me even after 80 minutes then there is something very wrong with it.
