Frankreich, 19. Jahrhundert. Der Bildhauer Auguste Rodin ist ein gefeierter Künstler seines Metiers. Doch während er breite Anerkennung findet, erkennt niemand das Talent seiner Muse und Geliebten Camille Claudel an. Die Gesellschaft verbietet ihr als Frau eine künstlerische Eigenständigkeit zu wahren, und so muss Camille immer wieder gegen Vorurteile und Verachtung ankämpfen. Doch auch Rodin lässt sie immer wieder fallen. Camille beginnt zu trinken und wird zunehmend depressiv.
