Chanti is bäck – im wahrscheinlich geilsten Märchen ever! Chantal (Jella Haase), ewige Influencerin ohne Follower, und ihre beste Freundin Zeynep (Gizem Emre) geraten durch einen antiken Zauberspiegel, den sie für ein Social Media Gimmick halten, in die Märchenwelt. Zur Freude Chantals, denn als Prinzessin kann man doch vermutlich den besten Content generieren! Dummerweise ist es nicht irgendein Märchen, in das sie hineingerät, sondern ausgerechnet „Dornröschen“. Kleine Warnung an alle Prinzen: Wachküssen nur auf eigene Gefahr! Während Chantal den Weg zurück nach Hause sucht, stellt sie fest, dass im Reich der Drachen, Feen und anderer Märchenfiguren vieles anders läuft, als wir es aus den Geschichten der Gebrüder Grimm kennen. Prinzessin Amalia (Maria Ehrich), die so gar nicht davon träumt verheiratet zu werden, der sensible Prinz Bosco (Max von der Groeben), der unter Identitätsproblemen leidet, Aladin (Mido Kotaini), der noch nie etwas von einem fliegenden Teppich gehört hat, und eine Hexe (Nora Tschirner), die alles andere als die Klischees erfüllt. The Suck Me Shakespeer trilogy (especially the first film) was a fresh and humorous breeze in the field of German comedies, and I'm glad that they decided to make a sequel, albeit in a slightly different direction. Jella Haase with her Chantal was one of the funniest elements within those films. so why not use her as fodder for a fairy tale adventure? The fact that the film was made in the homeland of the Brothers Grimm makes it all the more hilarious and ironic. Chantal in Fairyland combines quite successfully a wacky comedy with a fantastical tale of female emancipation and the importance of friendship. These are admittedly common (and thus overused) themes these days, but in this case it is spiced up with just that unconventional genre concept. From a technical standpoint, it was a satisfying piece with a solid soundtrack, and I won't be at all opposed to a repeat screening in the future. I'd just be sure to watch it in the original version.
