A Good Girl's Guide to Murder

A British series with an American lead playing the good girl. I can't say I was blown away, but I don’t regret the time spent. I kept imagining how the BBC might have handled this, and surprisingly, Netflix came off as the more likable option, even in terms of political correctness and inclusivity. The story itself felt a bit too transparent; I had my suspicions about the main villain from the pilot, and by the second episode, I was almost certain. When my guess was confirmed at the end, I wasn’t sure if I was more pleased with myself or disappointed with the predictability of the script. Throughout the series, it was clear that it was aimed at a much younger audience, which was reinforced by the portrayal of the main character. She seemed to be crafted to appeal to younger viewers. The show didn’t demand much intellectual engagement and made sure to touch on all the trending topics and groups. Still, I found myself somewhat entertained throughout. The plot seems interesting right off the bat, and I found the main character quite likable, even though she still looks like a prime target for a pedophile (I enjoyed her as Enid in Wednesday too). It’s clear that this isn’t going to be a brain-twisting mystery. I’ve already got my prime suspect, and the woodland adventure felt reminiscent of simpler stories aimed at a younger audience. That said, I’m still enjoying it. It reminded me of reading Kalle Blomkvist and the duo Mats and Päivi when I was younger, and Pippa is definitely keeping me entertained now. (05.08.2024)

I’m not sure about this one. The fourth episode felt like it was shifting from a youth detective story to a detective story just for girls, and I struggled with that a bit. The hotel subplot seemed a bit forced, and the scene with the policeman didn’t quite land for me. With another loss of life and the ongoing investigation confirming suspicions I had since the second episode, I can confidently say I enjoyed this one more than the last. I'm really curious to see what twist the creators have in store for the finale; I suspect everything will turn out differently in the end, as things are not always what they seem. / Lesson learned: Every country has its own dark secrets. Alright, the creators successfully wrapped up their project, and to my utter surprise, without the twist I was 100% expecting. Instead, the script introduced an epilogue of sorts, and it was this addition that deprived the sixth episode of a potential third star. It was as weak as tea without a kick, which left me disappointed despite the fact that this series didn’t exactly strain my already overworked brain cells. / Lesson learned: Those who seek, find — often to the annoyance of others.
