Mondo Cannibale 2 - Der Vogelmensch

Einer der ersten und definitiv besseren "Kannibalen" Horrorfilme. Sympathisch daran ist, dass er wirklich auch als Abenteuergeschichte einer kleinen Expedition funktioniert, die der widerliche Dschungel buchstäblich verschlingt. Anakondas, Krokodile und Menschenfresser sind nur eine schwache Aufzählung aller Gefahren, obwohl die hauptsächlichen Bösewichte natürlich die einheimischen Ureinwohner sind. Es mangelt definitiv nicht an menschlicher Darstellung, aber es gibt auch ein paar andere Appetithappen, wie zum Beispiel das brutale Ausnehmen eines Krokodils oder eine Geburt, bei der die einheimische Mutter ihr Neugeborenes an ein weiteres Krokodil verfüttert. Und das Ende ist ziemlich unerwartet spannend, bei dem man dem Helden die Daumen drücken muss. (11.09.2014)

The Last Cannibal World definitely isn't a classic cannibal film in the sense that it's only about horror. There's also a suspenseful story that can be followed, with the caveat that you might occasionally want to close your eyes during the animal killings depicted here. Otherwise, the film shows that sometimes we simply have to do truly horrific things if we want to preserve our own lives. It's not perfect by any means, but compared to similar pieces, it does stand out quite strongly. (05.03.2014)

The same rating has Cannibal Holocaust. Very good in terms of rawness and exploitation terror, with terrible actors, of course, but what else can you expect from the Italians. The scene where they kill and butcher a crocodile was over the top, even for me, and I’m not one of those who would want to see the director’s head on a stick for killing a monkey or a turtle. The music is good, likewise the gore (though there’s not that much of it), so I have no choice but to recommend the The Last Cannibal World – naturally, only to those who know what to expect.
