Wenn man von diesem Film nicht das zweite Rosemaries Baby erwartet, kann man angenehm von einer ziemlich guten satanistischen Unterhaltung überrascht sein. Das Konzert für Satan kann nicht nur mit der großartigen Musik von Jerry Goldsmith, sondern auch mit der interessanten Besetzung von Alan Alda und Jacqueline Bisset glänzen. Die Charaktere sind zwar nicht besonders gut geschrieben, aber ich habe mich ganz gut unterhalten gefühlt, die Atmosphäre ist definitiv vorhanden und der einzige größere Mangel wäre die überflüssige Länge. Es hätte ehrlichere Bewertungen verdient.

The Mephisto Waltz lacks that crucial element that would make it a truly good horror film. That crucial element is an atmosphere that would add a proper dose of tension to the story, where you'd be on edge, anticipating what will happen next. This effect is absent here because you will be able to predict the individual steps that will occur in the plot. It's a shame because in that case, The Mephisto Waltz would have been a great horror movie for me. This way it is only very slightly above average.
