Der junge Slumdog Jamal sorgt in der indischen Version der 'Millionenshow' für eine Sensation. Nur eine Frage trennt ihn noch von dem Hauptgewinn von 20 Millionen Rupien, doch die Produzenten halten den ungebildeten Nobody für einen Betrüger. Bis zur nächsten Sendung nehmen ihn zwei Polizisten schlagkräftig ins Verhör. Jamals Erfolg basiert aber auf der Härte seines Lebens.
