It's a western remake of the film High Sierra, or rather a western adaptation of Burnett's novel, although this time he wasn't involved in the screenplay. The plot is essentially the same, but suddenly you realize that the western style suits it incredibly well. Moreover, Joel McCrea isn't a classic heartthrob, but he has something quite human and natural about him that makes him more ordinary than other stars of his time. Sullivan's Travels convinced me that I could trust him, and he only confirmed that. Raoul Walsh directed a remake of his own film, and it must be said that he did it even better this time. He approached the theme more broadly, developed the characters more deeply, and thus made the ending even stronger.
