Der Alptraum ist eine einzigartige musikalische Aufnahme, in der Alice Cooper auftritt und als Bonus der Horrorklassiker Vincent Price. Was könnte man sich mehr wünschen? Das Einzige, was mich bedauerte, war, dass ich diesen Film nur fragmentiert und in ziemlich miserabler Qualität gefunden habe, was das Erlebnis etwas verschlechtert. Das ist jedoch kein großes Problem, das nicht überwunden werden könnte. Ansonsten mag ich Coopers spätere Arbeit lieber, aber seine Leistung ist auch hier unersetzlich. Alice ist der Teufel und Vincent sein Lehrer, zumindest so sehe ich das. Sehr kitschig und gelungenes Horrormusical. Willkommen in meinem Albtraum!

The journey of a boy, Steven, through a chain of fourteen songs sung by horror rock guru, Alice Cooper. Quite sincerely, it is unwatchable. At least, as far as the visual experience is concerned. An utterly tasteless pasteboard home movie. Luckily it is the excellent music that is the important thing here. Typical seventies Alice Cooper. If you know his solo-debut concept album “Welcome to My Nightmare", you know what to expect. The only differences are that the twelfth song in the movie, “Ballad of Dwight Fry" is from a later album, and that “The Black Widow" comes at a different place than on the album. The pieces de la resistance are the spoken interludes between songs. And when you confront Alice Cooper with Vincent Price and his inimitable charisma, diction and intonation, quality is guaranteed. And the result? Excellent, but it’s better to put on the album alone and let your own fantasy work.
