Die Geschwister Trish und Darry sind auf der Heimfahrt vom College in die Sommerferien, als sie plötzlich auf einer einsamen Landstraße mitten im Niemandsland von einem verrosteten Lastwagen gerammt werden. Noch unter Schock stehend, setzen sie ihre Fahrt fort und entdecken den Truck kurze Zeit später an einer alten Kirche. Im Vorbeifahren beobachten sie, wie eine mysteriöse Gestalt ein menschengroßes, in Laken gehülltes Bündel von der Ladefläche hebt und in eine Röhre verschwinden lässt, die in den Erdboden führt. Die anfängliche Angst vor dem Unbekannten wird schließlich von Darrys Neugierde besiegt und so kehren die beiden wider jeglicher Vernunft um. Doch die beiden machen schon bald eine grauenhafte Entdeckung, die ihnen das Blut in den Adern gefrieren lässt… (ATV)

The first twenty minutes are great, but it goes downhill from there until it becomes a stupid and unoriginal hodgepodge. Without original staging and a crescendo of the tension, you can’t make great horror, even if you have an attractive idea and an entertaining last scene. In particular, the dialogues and the decisions of the characters at key moments are like out of a reality show.

Jeepers Creepers is a slasher film that is traditional for its time, flaws and all. The gore here is rather mild, disgusting but less bloody. The monster, however, is exceptionally well done and is definitely one of those that is worth paying attention to. It's not surprising then that there was a sequel and even a third installment is in the works. However, it's not a series that aims to impress. It simply entertains, if you overlook its empty spaces.
