Bei einem missglückten Coup erschoss Trickbetrüger Foley seinen Komplizen und musste deswegen 25 Jahre hinter Gitter. Die Rückkehr ins bürgerliche Leben erweist sich für den gebrochenen Mann als steinig. Einziger Lichtblick ist die junge Prostituierte Iris, die er aus den Fängen ihres brutalen Zuhälters befreit. Das Angebot eines zwielichtigen Nachtklubbesitzers, der ihn zu einem „todsicheren" Coup überreden will, lehnt er zunächst ab. Bald wird ihm jedoch klar, dass ihm keine andere Wahl bleibt, als mitzuspielen. (ARD)

I was honestly surprised by how decent this film was, considering its low ratings. The story really pulled me in—that’s probably its strongest point. Right behind that is Samuel L. Jackson. I was a bit shocked to see him in a movie like this, especially when everyone else around him is acting like they’re in some low-budget B-movie. But Samuel nails it—I believed every bit of his anger, sadness, and depression. The rest of the cast, though? Not so much. They couldn’t convincingly deliver a single scene. Still, for the story, the ending, and Samuel’s solid performance, I’m giving it three stars.
