Mravnost nade vše

Eine nächste hervorragende Komödie mit dem ausgezeichneten Hugo Haas und der couragierten Věra Ferbasová… Diesmal habe ich aber ein großes Problem mit Adina Mandlová. Ich weiß nicht, wessen Idee es war, ihr die Rolle von einem schüchternen, unauffälligen und ungeschickten Mädchen zu geben. Es war aber eine schlechte Idee und man sieht, dass sie sich in ihrer Rolle nicht wohl fühlt. Ein Vergleich mit den natürlichen Schauspielleistungen aller anderen ist geradezu trostlos. Ursprünglich wollte ich Morality Above All Else drei Sterne geben, aber für das Ohnmacht-Ende bekommt der Film noch einen vierten. (13.12.2015)

"My idol..." A comedy that was quite daring for its time. It cheerfully mocked social norms and unwritten rules, beautifully showing that the darkest secrets often lie beneath the surface. It's not a constant explosion of laughter, but it's been a while since I've smiled like this almost the entire time. The main reasons are the brilliantly crafted verbal humor and the amazing performance by Hugo Haas. (16.02.2007)

The film has a great plot, which nowadays might seem somewhat cliché, but with the actors of that time, especially with the great Hugo Haas, it's simply a soulful ballad. It's nice, sometimes quite impactful, and it keeps going without stopping. Another great example of the talented actors the Czechs had and the excellent comedies they were able to produce.
