The Newsroom takes a behind-the-scenes look at a high-rated cable-news program at the fictional ACN Network, focusing on the on- and off-camera lives of its acerbic anchor, new executive producer, their newsroom staff and their news-division boss. Overcoming a tumultuous first day together – climaxing in a newsflash that a BP oil rig has just exploded in the Gulf of Mexico – the team sets out on a patriotic if quixotic mission to "do the news well" in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles, and their own personal entanglements. The Newsroom (2012)

Englisch I was hooked from the first episode. What I liked was the perfect fusion of drama and intelligent humor, which was so dry in places that some scenes would have been impossible to film without a fire watch. It was both fun and thought-provoking. The cast was perfect, the individual characters felt extremely real to me, and I would have been completely satisfied if it hadn't been for the second half of the third season, which was rather underwhelming after the fantastic second season. ()

Season 1 (2012) (S01)

Englisch I really enjoyed the first season. The individual characters had depth, and although the series deals with serious issues, its intelligent humor makes it more than just a boring drama. I would have been five-star material if it hadn't been for the awfully melodramatic fifth episode. ()

Gute Nachrichten (2012) (S01E01)

Englisch Some shows take a few episodes to grab me, but The Newsroom had me hooked from the start. The fascinating setting, the entertaining genre blend, and the stellar cast made it an instant favorite. ()

Die Kongresswahl (2012) (S01E03)

Englisch This episode reminded me of that well-known truth: people claim they want honest and truthful answers, but when they get them, they realize lies are much more comfortable and don't disrupt their lazy lives. ()

Lügen und Geheimnisse (2012) (S01E04)

Englisch A perfect blend of news, politics, interpersonal relationships, guns, spilled drinks, drama, humor, and even a Yeti. It felt like the hour-long episode flew by in just twenty minutes. Kudos! ()

Amen (2012) (S01E05)

Englisch I was all set to give this episode four stars until the overly sentimental American ending, complete with enthusiastic applause ruined it for me. That cringe-worthy moment nearly spoiled the entire episode for me. ()

Tyrannen (2012) (S01E06)

Englisch A well-crafted and funny episode, especially the Japanese segment that brought back memories of Suntory whisky. It's fascinating how they manage to keep the relationship dynamics at a standstill even after six episodes. ()

Der Informant (2012) (S01E07)

Englisch A fairly well-presented take on America's biggest counter-terrorism success. After episode five, I feared the worst, but after the archvillain's death, patriotism was surprisingly bearable and sentimentality was barely present. ()

Die Scheindebatte (2012) (S01E09)

Englisch I love that this show makes me laugh so much while also making me think. Emily Mortimer keeps getting better as MacKenzie, but the will-they-won’t-they between Jim and Maggie is starting to get a bit annoying. ()

Season 2 (2013) (S02)

Englisch I liked the second season even better than the first one. The plot seemed more coherent thanks to the investigation into the special report regarding Operation: Genoa. The personal relationships, which were stagnating at the end of the first season, underwent development and began to contribute to the plot. For a drama series, it had a considerable amount of humor, and I had a great time. ()

Unbeabsichtigte Konsequenzen (2013) (S02E04)

Englisch A pretty solid episode, but once again, they used the theme of African children, which doesn't move me as much as other topics. It's also a bit odd how well these neglected orphans speak English. Some parts felt like a deliberate attempt to tug at heartstrings, but I couldn’t bring myself to dock another star since I still enjoyed the rest of the episode. ()

Wahlabend (1) (2013) (S02E08)

Englisch The election broadcast had plenty of energy, and Neal's side tasks had me laughing. Charlie's attempts to get fired were hilarious, reminiscent of some people trying to avoid work the moment it comes into view. ()

Season 3 (2014) (S03)

Englisch I have mixed feelings about the third season. The first half had everything I was used to – quality drama, intelligent humor, and thought-provoking topics. From the fourth episode on, things seemed to slow down. The theme of journalism was dropped, the main focus shifted to personal relationships, and the story quickly descended into mediocrity. It seemed to me that the final episode was written just to make everything turn out well, to let truth and love triumph over hatred and lies, and to make you nostalgic for the past seasons. It's a shame, the series deserved a better ending, this one seemed kind of fake. ()

Der Whistleblower (2014) (S03E02)

Englisch Neal's espionage storyline didn't really grab me. On the flip side, I was thoroughly entertained by the team's scramble to raise four billion for Leona. That's going to be a piece of cake, right? ()

Missachtung (2014) (S03E04)

Englisch Episode four is all about battles. The team fights against the system, the new owner's vision for the station, and for their moral values. However, the plot felt a bit less engaging compared to previous episodes. ()

Oh Shenandoah (2014) (S03E05)

Englisch The focus shifted from important reports to prison dialogues that didn’t catch my interest. To top it off, they resurrected the Jim and Maggie relationship, which was a bit of a letdown. ()
