Space Jam: A New Legacy

I yawned quite a lot. The most interesting thing about the new Space Jam was that watching a rapping Porky Pig wasn’t as cringe as seeing the crowd of Warner characters watching the game, played (unless they were animated) by people with pretty bad make-up, and the whole thing felt like one of the worst parodies ever. As for the main cartoon characters, unlike the boring human (anti)heroes, they managed to entertain me, but I was still amazed at the lack of teeth of the writers, who couldn't give those characters, even during the main match, at least one "avengers" scene, where Bugs, Will. E, Daffy and co. would get totally unleashed. A shame? Just a little. (27.03.2022)

Das Original Space Jam ist mir nur noch vage in Erinnerung, dennoch ging ich mit einer gewissen nostalgischen Vorfreude an die zweite Episode heran. Visuell ist es ein ziemlich gutes Stück, das Live-Action mit Animation mischt. Mir gefiel auch die Idee, verschiedene Charaktere aus den Filmstudios einzubeziehen, auch wenn das Treatment selbst überladen und manchmal ein bisschen kitschig war. Der größte Stolperstein sind jedoch das seichte bis dämliche Drehbuch voller Familien- und Langweiler-Klischees und die langweiligen schauspielerischen Leistungen, bei denen nicht einmal der "Michael-Jordan"-Witz zündet. Für einen Betrachter mit einem Viertelpotenzhirn ist der zweite Space Jam ziemlich harmlos, aber ein zweites Mal würde ich nicht zu diesem Basketball-Häppchen greifen. (18.07.2021)

The return of the legendary cult after 25 years, now with LeBron in the lead role. How could this possibly turn out? To start, I want to point out that I'm not one of those passionate defenders or fans of the original film. Yes, the first one entertained me, but that’s where it ends. The sequel follows a similar spirit. LeBron in the lead role didn’t bother me (what would anyone else have wanted? After all, he’s no actor like Michael Jordan). And the story? Sure, it's a pretty worn-out plot, but I must commend the creators for trying to stay current and choosing AI as the main antagonist. Why not? :) The various pop culture references to many things from the Warner Bros. universe, such as DC, Game of Thrones, The Matrix, etc., were enjoyable. And the final game didn’t disappoint either. So, no disaster here. It’s a laid-back film with everything that comes with it. 6/10. P.S. That cameo was a knockout... the best scene in the film!
