The Expanse (2015)

Englisch I've always been a big fan of The Expanse, and still am because it's one of those rare sci-fi series that stays true to its genre throughout. Sure, there were moments where the creators veered off into tear-inducing melodrama, a trend particularly popular in the States, but they always managed to find their way back. After the second-to-last season, I wasn't expecting any redemption, but it came, and boy, was it worth it. / Lesson learned: In unity there is strength, but how to maintain that unity? ()

Season 1 (2015) (S01)

Englisch The first season was far from disappointing, I had a great time. I liked how they grafted the detective genre onto a sci-fi, with both levels working very well. True, I did come across a few illogical moments, but I chose to ignore most of them. There are other series where they are impossible to ignore. I believe the creators managed to handle the political stratagems and loopholes between Earth, Mars and the Asteroid Belt very well. I'm curious to see how things will develop in Season 2. ()

50.000 Kilometer (2015) (S01E01)

Englisch The pilot hooked me pretty well, even though the rapid switching of locations was a bit confusing at first. Luckily, I quickly got into the groove. The story intrigued me, the atmosphere was solid, and there was no shortage of tension and action. Plus, I found it amusing that even the United Nations has its own Guantanamo. ()

Die große Leere (2015) (S01E02)

Englisch The second episode had less action, but the story remained engaging. I'm really enjoying the blend of sci-fi and detective elements, which seems to be working well so far. ()

OPA und die Canterbury (2015) (S01E03)

Englisch This episode was a blast. The political intrigue deepened, and the setting in the asteroid belt is starting to feel delightfully cyberpunk. I appreciate that the creators didn't resort to creating aliens — Martians look just like people you’d meet on the street. Plus, I got to see Jared Harris, which is always a treat. ()

CQB (2015) (S01E04)

Englisch Torpedoes flying, blue bolt cannons firing — it felt like all we were missing was Captain Jason Nesmith and his fearless crew aboard the Protector. Sure, there were a few moments that lacked logic, but hey, the Mormons are building their own spaceship, so it's all good. ()

Im Namen der Gerechtigkeit (2016) (S01E05)

Englisch Episode five focused mainly on Miller's investigation, bringing a welcome calm. The frenetic energy blasts were dialed down, allowing the show to return to its rich, atmospheric roots. Miller uncovered new leads, and we got a deeper dive into the bloody history of the Asteroid Belt. ()

Tiefpunkt (2016) (S01E06)

Englisch As I've mentioned before, I don't mind slower-paced episodes as long as they have something to say, but this time, I felt like I could have skipped this one. Miller's chat with Dawes and his last-minute rescue didn't excite me, and the events on Tycho Station failed to impress. ()

Gewagtes Spiel (2016) (S01E07)

Englisch Honestly, this episode grabbed me the most during Chrisjen Avasarala's political maneuvers. The events on the Rocinante didn't engage me as much, and Miller was sidelined this time. I also think the last-minute rescues need to be toned down significantly. 3*+ ()

Die Bergungsmission (2016) (S01E08)

Englisch Finally, a top-notch episode! The creators nailed an almost "alien" atmosphere while exploring the depths of the Anubis, delivered some intense action on Eros Station, and capped it off with a strong, compelling ending. ()

Anubis (2016) (S01E09)

Englisch The previous episode had a strong ending, and this one had a powerful start. Julie Mao's final moments were well-executed and provided clarity on key plot points. The events on Eros Station picked up pace, and I was thoroughly entertained. ()

Das Monster ist erwacht (2016) (S01E10)

Englisch The final episode left me a bit disappointed. The storyline with Miller and Holden felt uninspired and even a bit dull. Similarly, Naomi Nagata's group's journey didn't really impress. However, the multiple cliffhangers at the end were a nice touch and give me something to look forward to in the next season. ()

Season 2 (2017) (S02)

Englisch The second season made a better impression on me than the first one. I felt that the creators already knew exactly what they wanted, and the story seemed more coherent despite its many storylines. What annoyed me were several major illogicalities (I ignored the minor ones), the quality control should have been more rigorous :-) ()

Safe (2017) (S02E01)

Englisch The start of the second season maintains the same high-quality atmosphere, tension, and political intrigue as the previous season. It looks like the Martians are going to get more screen time this season, which I’m excited about. I also enjoyed the storyline around Chrisjen Avasarala. Overall, a solid start to the season. ()

Türen und Seitengänge (2017) (S02E02)

Englisch I enjoyed the first episode, but the second one really stepped it up a notch. The atmosphere was still great, the tension ramped up, and we got some serious action, including an epic space battle. The attack on the Spin Station was well-executed, and Chrisjen Avasarala's political maneuvers added even more intrigue. Five stars without a doubt. ()

Rauschen (2017) (S02E03)

Englisch Compared to the action-packed previous episode, the third one was much calmer. The repairs on the Rocinante couldn't hold my interest for long, so I was leaning towards three stars. But then Amos actually used his brain (!!), Miller threw me for a loop, and I'm eager to see what Chrisjen Avasarala will do next. So, four stars it is. ()

Viel Erfolg (2017) (S02E04)

Englisch I was thoroughly entertained by the gripping plot from start to finish. Chrisjen Avasarala is finally on the right track, but the highlight was the brilliantly executed space action around Eros. Yep, it seems like Doctors Without Borders aren't just making mistakes on Earth... ()

Heimat (2017) (S02E05)

Englisch A more subdued continuation of the previous episode, creating a well-balanced whole. The tension between Mars and Earth reminded me a lot of the Cuban Missile Crisis, where the Cold War nearly turned into a blazing hot one. Meanwhile, Miller is having some very close encounters... ()

Paradigmenwechsel (2017) (S02E06)

Englisch Episode six was a bit of a letdown for me. I spent way too much time with Mr. Epstein, and the happenings on Tycho felt pretty dull. The events on Ganymede were confusing. However, I did appreciate getting to know the Martian marine squad in such detail — definitely not a waste of time... ()

Der siebte Mann (2017) (S02E07)

Englisch Definitely an improvement over the last episode, though it still wasn't mind-blowing. The events made more sense, even if the power struggle in the OPA is as exciting as watching European Parliament debates. The political maneuvers on Earth were much more entertaining, and I'm curious to see how things will unfold on Ganymede. ()
