Ost-Berlin, am Morgen des 9. Oktober 1989: Der berühmte Schauspieler Otto Wolf steckt in den Proben für ein geheimes Theaterstück mit dem Titel „Vorwärts immer", in dem er Erich Honecker auf der Bühne verköpert. Von Kontakten erfährt Otto eine schockierende Nachricht: Die für den Abend in Leipzig geplanten Demonstrationen gegen das DDR-Regime sollen mit aller Gewalt niedergeschossen werden – und seine schwangere Tochter Anne ist gerade auf dem Weg dorthin! Also fassen Otto und seine Kollegen einen waghalsigen Plan: Solange der „echte" Erich Honecker in Wandlitz auf der Jagd ist, soll Otto als „falscher" Honecker das Zentralkomitee betreten und den Schießbefehl auf Leipzig zurücknehmen. Ein turbulentes Spiel auf Zeit beginnt, bei dem Otto nicht nur dem Zentralkomitee gefährlich nahekommt, sondern auch der echten Margot Honecker... (DCM)

For all the anticipation I had for this film, it ended up being almost unbearably naive at times. The two storylines were worlds apart in quality. The first one, about a group of young people heading to Leipzig for a protest, started off with a nice period feel but quickly devolved into a bore, not helped by the lackluster performances. The second, more entertaining storyline followed the actor Otto, played by Jörg Schüttauf. I found myself much more engaged with this part — the humor was a bit heavy-handed, but the plot about an actor being mistaken for a local communist official moved along nicely. It’s a shame; this film had the potential to be so much better and more entertaining.
