The third season of The Mandalorian shifted away from the episodic nature of previous seasons, where Mando tackled side quests while the main storyline took a backseat — something that I really enjoyed. This time, it feels more like a cohesive series focused on the unification of the Mandalorians and their fight for their homeland. It was good and had some truly fantastic moments, but it shone brightest when they stepped away from Mandalore, especially with guest appearances from Jack Black and Christopher Lloyd. ()
The slow exposition, the placement of the pieces on the chessboard, up to the masterful final double section, which is unmatched in terms of momentum. Great use of Bo and gaining respect for Mando. The attempt to be episodic struggles a bit with the larger story, but it all comes together nicely in the end. And there’s also the great Grogu, already riding on confidence and showing that he made the right choice. Excellent ending! ()
The third season abandons the classic episodic nature of the first two and builds a more comprehensive story that weaves through all the episodes of the most recent seasons so far. At first, the cards are laid out a little clumsily and slowly, and you don’t really know what to expect in the next episodes, but from about the halfway point on, the third season of The Mandalorian picks up a good pace and heads confidently towards a bombastic finale. There is no shortage of SW gadgets and quite a few amusing moments, especially around Grogu. As an epic Star Wars alternation it's only intermittent, but it is a feel good series almost constantly.
