Eine Serie, die von den Tagebuchaufzeichnungen von Anne Lister, einer der ersten modernen Lesben (falls Sie eine Bezeichnung brauchen), inspiriert ist. Die 1930er Jahre waren keine Zeit, die für jede Form von LGBT förderlich war, aber sie sind offensichtlich ein umso interessanterer Stoff für ein historisches Drama. Ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, dass ein so komplexer Stoff in einem einzigen Kurzfilm funktionieren kann, aber eine Miniserie ist ein hervorragendes Format. Dass es eine Welle der befreienden Aufklärung gibt, dass die Gesellschaft langsam aber sicher auf ein neues Eingeschnürtsein im Biedermeier zuströmt... Perfekt für die Zuschauer der neuen Bearbeitung von Vanity Fair oder Harlots - Haus der Huren.

Lately, it feels like there's an overwhelming amount of LGBT-themed shows and movies. Sometimes it seems like too much. But I always hope that if the creators handle it well, it could be interesting. Plus, Suranne Jones stars in it, and she impressed me last year in Doctor Foster. So, I gave Gentleman Jack a shot to see how it would turn out. The show does a fantastic job of capturing the period and atmosphere. It even reminded me a bit of Austen's depiction of the boredom and frustrations of British aristocracy, where people create problems out of nothing. Anne Lister’s tough persona really shook things up, and I enjoyed it. But once she started showing more emotions, my interest waned. In the end, I finished the first season but decided not to continue.
