The Marvels

Marvels setzt auf eine rein weibliche (Super-)Heldenbesetzung, aber das kann seine Tücken haben. Zunächst möchte ich sagen, dass ich eine stärker feministisch geprägte Aussage erwartet hatte, aber Marvels hielt sich in dieser Hinsicht ziemlich bedeckt. Was jedoch nicht zu übersehen war, war die manchmal sehr offensichtliche Ausrichtung auf das weibliche Publikum: Wir hatten noch nie so viele hübsche Miezen (und Cats, dafür aber Daumen hoch); die BFF-Linie war sehr stark; und die Titelszene besiegelte diese "offensichtliche Ausrichtung" nur noch. Aber sei’s drum! Glücklicherweise verfügt Marvels über optimales Filmmaterial und bietet klare und zügige Action, aber es gibt auch einen sträflich faden weiblichen Bösewicht und einige WTF-Momente (der Bollywood-angehauchte Besuch von Aladna war, ähm, seltsam). Am Ende ein wenig besser als der dritte Ant-Man. (12.11.2023)

In diesem Film mit drei Heldinnen, der seit dem ersten Trailer Leichtigkeit vermittelt, geht es zu sehr um die Heldinnen und er wurde mit Leichtigkeit gedreht. Ach ja. The Marvels hat mir sehr gut gefallen, vielleicht deshalb, weil ich keinen zweiten Civil War erwartet habe und weil es mir nichts ausmacht, verschiedene Filme mit unterschiedlichen Augen zu betrachten. Ich habe mich also nicht nur über das Zusammenspiel der Hauptfiguren gefreut, sondern auch über die Suche dieses Zusammenspiels, bei dem die perfekte Iman Vellani als Kamala eine entscheidende Rolle spielte. Es ist schwer, sich eine bessere Begleiterin für die Geschichte von The Marvels vorzustellen als ein begeistertes Teenager-Mädchen, das endlich von einer Serie in den Film und von Träumen zu ihrer Erfüllung gelangt ist. Der Film ist leicht, unterhaltsam und farbenfroh. Er hat eine verständlich handelnde Negativgestalt, eine großartige Musik (Laura Karpman sollte bitte etwas für Star Wars machen) einschließlich eines Musical-Abschnitts, in dem sich Disney ein wenig über sich selbst lustig macht, einfallsreiche Actionszenen mit einem Charakterwechsel, einen entwaffnenden Humor (wie aus Emmerichs Actionfilmen) in Szenen wie „Nick Fury und Kamalas Familie“… Und es gibt auch Kätzchen und Cats! Der sympathischste Marvel-Film der letzten Jahre. (16.11.2023)

Better than Quantumania and I do believe Nia DaCosta is a talented director. The problem is that she said she wanted to make a film that her young daughter would enjoy watching. And that's it. The target audience for this mess is somewhere between the ages of five and early adolescence, and the rest of us are probably going to have a hard time digesting this over-the-top girl-power manifesto, and with a female villain who is the biggest casting blunder in the entire Marvel franchise. Yes, it's got one funny idea (the scene to the music of A.L. Webber), but watching the rest of it is only entertaining in its reassurance of how Marvel is in a downhill and doesn't know which way to go. (18.01.2024)

I am terribly sorry that genre viewer fatigue, fandom toxicity (who says there isn't any here, let them browse any discussion forum) and unfortunate timing collided right here. Of course, I can respect the fact that many people get lost in the universe and that this is the intersection that most clearly shows that escaping from such a labyrinth is not easy. It's not about connecting two movie series, here you should immediately check out several TV series, when Ms. Marvel and Wandavision are an absolute necessity for the experience to make sense. Also remember / review Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame, arrange an approximate timeline, keep in mind what all belongs to this shuffled universe, will belong to it or could belong to it. It is an endless task and just because I enjoy it, it doesn't mean that everyone else does as well and honestly, going to the cinema to unwind and not being able to completely relax is a understandable objection. Unfortunately, I feel that the public here has refused to take even a single step towards the film and this will inevitably harm the result. And when the wounded lie, why not kick them again. Marvels shines with unparalleled light for me. I don't know exactly how they did it, because the script is a bit messy in terms of genre, the connection of the main Miracles with Monica could have ended up as a forced digression, but just the opposite. The power of friendship, that ordinary driving force of many adventure blockbusters is here in the first place, in the second then a classic smaller team and a fight with an understandable villain in foreign worlds. It calls for classic adventure movies, where there is humor, likable actors, beautiful actresses, super characters that the viewer wants to see repeatedly. All of this is here, on a silver platter. Don't let this feast disgust you, one day we will miss it. (22.12.2023)

A below-average and obviously mismanaged Marvel film, which impresses with unexpectedly decent action scenes and some chemistry between the central trio. Apart from that, it can only offer a not very interesting story, boring visuals and really very poor attempts to work with the characters and their psychology. And some really really idiotic ideas. It's not a complete blunder like, say, the latest Thor, but it's not a good movie either. (09.11.2023)
