Schlummerland

Zunächst einmal muss ich sagen, wie überrascht ich war, dass Schlummerland eine Adaption von Geschichten aus dem Jahr 1905 ist. Der Film selbst erinnerte mich in seiner Verarbeitung, Atmosphäre und Thematik sehr an die Filme In meinem Himmel (die Tatsache, dass Marlow Barkley - zumindest in meinen Augen - Saoirse Ronan sehr ähnlich ist, hat dazu beigetragen), Sieben Minuten nach Mitternacht und I Kill Giants. In visueller Hinsicht ist es ein fantasievoller Film voller attraktiver CGI-Momente, wobei mir die Sequenzen mit dem "Schmetterlingstraum" und dem Kraken am besten gefallen haben. Der Film hätte ruhig etwas kürzer sein können. Neuzugang Marlow Barkley war wirklich sympathisch und glaubwürdig, vom Duo Flip/Philip war ich mehr von Chris O'Dowd beeindruckt. Bessere drei Sterne! Zu Weihnachten ein angenehmes Familienabenteuer. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass Jason Momoa diese Rolle genauso genossen hat wie den Bösewicht in Fast & Furious 10. (24.12.2023)

Francis Lawrence clearly has a soft spot for fantasy worlds, and I have to say, I'm grateful for it. Slumberland is a lovely film. It's not groundbreaking, but within the genre, it's definitely a solid piece. The dreamlike fantasy setting isn't always fully realized, though it offers some beautiful moments. The movie starts off traditionally with a family tragedy, which instantly makes you connect emotionally with the main characters. I had to warm up to Jason Momoa's character and Chris O'Dowd, who once again plays one of his seemingly mundane roles. Watching this, you can't help but miss the days when Jack Sparrow would appear on screen, and everyone knew exactly who owned the film. Things are more complicated now, but as I said, I'm happy to see any good fantasy film. (20.11.2022)
