Die Tochter des chinesischen Konsuls Han wird während der hektischen Rush Hour in Los Angeles gekidnapped. Der besorgte Vater, der dem FBI nicht zutraut, seine Tochter wohlbehalten zu ihm zurückzubringen, besorgt sich mit Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) Unterstützung aus Hongkong. Kulturen prallen aufeinander, wenn der großmäulige, eigensinnige Polizist James Carter (Chris Tucker) unter falschen Voraussetzungen auf Lee angesetzt wird, damit dieser dem FBI nicht dazwischenfunkt. In ihren Bestrebungen, den Fall jeweils auf eigene Faust zu lösen, muss sich das ungleiche Duo notgedrungen zusammenraufen. (TV24)

The main characters are entertaining and funny, and that's all they needed for a solid success. The combination of the East's fastest feet and the West's biggest talker and buffoon worked quite solidly, and this action-packed romp surprisingly turned out to be a solid comedy. And the fact that the action is sometimes eye-poppingly silly and that Jackie Chan is visibly fooling around at times is easily forgivable, because the film has momentum and you don’t get bored. It's a pity about the other parts, because this could have been tolerated. I had fun.

A cliché seen a hundred times before, dressed up in slightly more elegant garb and played by a more likable pair of comedians. But it’s still basically just a run-of-the-mill action flick.

When I first watched this movie - yes, in 2014 - I realized how much Jonah Hill resembles Chris Penn, not just in appearance but also in speech. Interesting. But back to the film. If I had seen it about ten years ago, when movies weren't so filled with loud black characters, it probably would have grabbed me a bit more right from the start. I never get tired of Jackie. Chris Tucker is originally quite unbearable, but somehow this duo just clicks. I'm not saying it's excellent, but occasionally some scenes do work.
